Dr Bheka C. Zulu

Dr Bheka C. Zulu, a seasoned mariner, is a world-renowned maritime and transport expert with over 20 years of exceptional leadership, policy development, and infrastructure management experience.

As the CEO of Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ), one of more than 240 SEZs across the African continent, Dr. Zulu has played a pivotal role in facilitating a total of R28 billion in investment and driving a remarkable contribution of 65% toward exports through South African Ports. His leadership continues to propel TASEZ as a key player in Africa’s industrial growth.

In addition to his work at TASEZ, he has held influential board positions with the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), Moses Kotane Institute, Council of Higher Education (CHE), and the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF), and serves on the National Department of Transport’s Integrated Transport BBBEE Charter Council. Dr. Zulu’s expertise spans public entity oversight, international maritime negotiations, marine environmental protection, and skills development within the ocean economy, driving transformative initiatives in maritime BEE, port operations, and education.

A highly awarded leader, he is the recipient of the 2023 Transport Evolution Africa Inclusive Leadership Award and the 2024 Best Infrastructure Implementer Construction SETA Award. With an MBA, a Master’s in Maritime Studies, and a PhD in Leadership focused on the Ocean Economy, Dr. Zulu’s career includes senior management roles at top-tier global freight and shipping organisations in South Africa, Singapore, Antwerp, the US Gulf, Namibia, and Angola.

His extensive experience in offshore oil and gas, petroleum transportation, bulk cargo, and containerized shipping, combined with his in-depth knowledge of global maritime conventions and codes such as SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISPS, positions him as a visionary leader shaping the future of both the automotive and maritime industries.
